Our Honorable Ward Member Mr.Desingh has left us to heavenly abode. He was 45 year old. He has left behind 3 unmarried girls. He battled for his life for past 20 days.

He was injured heavily in an Van-Bus accident in Madurai on 19th Dec 2009.

He has helped the villagers throughout his life. It is an irreparable loss for all of us. We will do our best to the three girl child of him and follow his legacy of service to the brethren.

Our Dream has come True.Thank you.

We are very happy to inform you that the houses have been inaugurated on 22nd of February 2009 at 2.00 PM by the Honourable Revenue Minister of Maharashtra.This new settlement has been name after Sant Namdev (c.1270-c.1350 CE) as "Sant Namdev Nagar"

It was a joyous moment for all of us in our village,though it was delayed,we are indebted to people of Maharashtra and well wishers like you who have given us hope in our lives again.

Note : On 18th February we were fortunate to have Resource person form MPEDA-Netfish and MSSRF to train us in Tuna fishing,Sustainable fishing practices and Hygienic handling of fishes.

About Sant Nāmdev - From Wikipedia

Nāmdev (Nām Dev or Sant Nāmdev) (c.1270-c.1350 CE) was a prominent religious poet of Maharashtra, India in the Hindu tradition, and was one the earliest writers who wrote in the Marathi language. He also wrote some hymns in the Hindi and the Punjabi languages. His sixty-one compositions are a part of Sikhism's holy Guru, Guru Granth Sahib.

Namdev was born in the village of NarasVamani, now located in the Satara District in Maharashtra. He was born to a tailor named Dāmāsheti Relekar and his wife Gonāi (Gunābāi). Soon after his birth, his family moved to Pandharpur in the Solapur district of Maharashtra, where the prominent temple of the Hindu God form Viththal or Vithobā is located. His parents were devotees of Vithobā.

At age eleven, Namdev was married to Rājāi (Rājābāi), a daughter of Govindasheti Sadāvarte. Namdev and Rājāi had four sons and a daughter. (Some people claiming to be Namdev's descendants reside in Pandharpur.)

Since childhood, Namdev was an ardent devotee of Vithoba like his parents. According to a legend, when Namdev was five years old, his mother once gave him some food offering for Vithoba and asked him to take it and give it to Vithoba in the Pandharpur temple. Accordingly, young Namdev took the offering and placed it before Vithoba's idol in the temple, asking Vithoba to partake of the offering. When he saw that his request was not being met, he told Vithoba that unless his request was met, he would be killing himself. Vithoba then appeared in a personal form and partook of the offering in response to the utter devotion of young Namdev[citation needed]. (The place where, according to the legend, Namdev had waited for Vithoba to partake of the food offering is currently identified in that temple as "Nāmdev Pāyari".)

Namdev traveled through many parts of India, reciting his religious poems. He is said to have lived for more than twenty years in the village of Ghuman in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, where a memorial commemorates him.

Namdev is regarded to have had a significant influence on the later, 17th century religious poet Tukaram of Maharashtra[citation needed].

Namdev's devotional compositions ("abhangas") have been collected in the document known as Namdev's Gāthā. His work titled "Teerthāvalee" contains his compositions concerning his travels in the company of Sant Dnyaneshwar.

About Kalikuppam

Its a village in Karaikal District of Puducherry U.T of Republic of India.Its a 2004 Tsunami affected Village.Currently people of this village are slowing building up their village again with help of many aid agencies.

History:
Kalikuppam is named after the primary deity of the village, Goddess Kali Amman. The ancient name of the Goddess was Kallumettu Amman, this latter changed to Kali Amman. It is 150 year old village. It initially had 30 families. On 26th December 2004, the Great Tsunami hit this village and 23 men, women and children of this village got perished. Most of the houses and other infrastructure were washed away. Still they have not been resettled away from the coast.

Geography:
Now it has 186 families. Its current population is 675. Of which 300 are less than 18 year old. It’s a 100% fishing village. It is the lowest lying village of Karaikal district. It is prone to Tsunamis and Cyclone.

Economy:
Whole population of this village is engaged in fishing activities, except 6 men who are
engaged in other profession.


Physical Infrastructure:
It is connected by a road parallel to the coast, which is very much prone to Tsunami. It is
linked with Varichukudy and Karaikal town.80% of the houses is hutments. Its other
infrastructure include

3. Old Anganwadi building close to the Sea shore, which is still housing the Anganwadi
4. Disused fish drying platform

After Tsunami it got following Infrastructure.
1.A Primary school building from Rajiv Gandhi Foundation
2.A Community Hall from Rajiv Gandhi Foundation
3.Maharashtra government has constructed more than 170 new houses for it and the work is complete.

Threats:
1.Tsunami:As they are still living close to the shore, they are very vulnerable to Tsunami. It may be the only village which has not been resettled. Moreover 80% of the settlement are hutments and it is the lowest lying village in the Karaikal District.
2.Cyclone: Cyclone Nisha damaged many of the houses in the village as they were hutments.

Concerns:
1.Laying of a new road from this new settlement to Varichikudy to avoid, Tsunami prone coastal road.
